Who is Dawid Malan?
Dawid Malan, the left-handed batsman, kicked off his international career in 2017 and has since played 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, with his most recent T20I match happening last year. With fewer chances coming his way, he chose to end his six-year journey in international cricket.
Dawid Malan made a striking entry into international cricket in a T20I in Cardiff in 2017, demolishing South Africa’s attack with 78 from 44 balls. He deposited the second ball, from Chris Morris, over midwicket for six and never looked back.
England’s top batter Dawid Malan revealed that he often felt the need to prove himself, which added to the pressure he faced on the field. He expressed that despite these challenges, it’s been a true honor to represent England at such a high level.
Malan was part of the squad that celebrated England’s second T20 World Cup victory in Australia two years ago, although he only participated in four matches, scoring 56 runs in three of them with an average of 28.
At his peak, Malan was one of the most explosive and feared players in the English cricket scene. Since his international debut in 2017, he has played 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, with his last T20I match occurring last year.Malan entered the 2023 ODI World Cup in fantastic shape and emerged as England’s leading run-scorer with 404 runs across nine games. Sadly, his final international outing came during the last group match against Pakistan.

In 2020, he was among the top run-scorers in T20Is, and his impressive half-centuries in South Africa, including a stellar unbeaten 99, helped England clinch the No. 1 spot in the format by year’s end. When he got called back for the Test team in 2021, he was the reigning T20I batter. However, despite being one of the three England players, alongside Joe Root and Ben Stokes, to hit at least two half-centuries during the Ashes that winter, he ended up getting dropped after England faced a 4-0 defeat in the series.
“Perhaps it is in my nature, but I often felt like I had something to prove and whilst the pressure goes with the territory, it does take a mental and physical toll. That being said, I have loved representing England, winning big games,” Malan made a post on his Instagram page.
